Winterising the Worms

Winterising the Worms

As a shepherd brings in the sheep when the snow begins to lay. As the temperature began to drop, I moved the worms into The Potting Shed.

If the weather gets really cold the entire wormery can freeze. As a precaution against the cold I always bring mine inside, place an old woollen jumper on the top layer of the wormery and wrap the whole thing in bubble wrap. They do a good job with the compost and provide great plant feed and I think the least we can do is make sure they don’t get too cold.

I’ve has a wormery for a couple of years now and despite not knowing one worm from another (they all look alike to me) I am quite attached.  I’ll report back on how they fared over the winter come spring.
