When my brother and I were children, our parents would take us shrimping off the pier in Deal.  We would spend the day flinging our shrimp nets far from the pier, chatting as we waited for the net to ‘fill’ before hand over hand we would pull the little net back up and exclaim over the size, colour and general superior quality of our own catch in relation to our siblings.

At the end of the days shrimping we would take our catch- normally a couple of handfuls and we would cook them up on a little stove and tell each other how wonderful they were. Little brown shrimp, a nightmare to peel and not enough for a sandwich but a day to catch. We all loved every bit of it, but maybe it was the company we were keeping.

If you fancy a days shrimping you can purchase a shrimp net for very little expense.  Whether it’s a Crab/Shrimp Drop Net which must be flung with joy off piers for the best results or a shrimping net which is pushed along a sandy beach at low tide whilst chatting to a companion, either is fine and I can recommend both. Not for the number of shrimps just for the quality of the memories.
