The smell of rosemary and freshly made pizza enveloped me as I walked into Nick Nairn Cook School in the Port of Menteith yesterday. Nick and Julia met me with a welcome full of smiles and offers of food and drink. The restaurant was already busy, but we managed to grab a table. What I had thought would be a short meeting turned into what felt like a catch up with old friends. It goes without saying that lunch was fabulous.
A couple of hours later, Cedarbank Studio has a permanent exhibition space at the Nick Nairn Cook School and Nick Nairn has a new Artist-in-Residence.
Nick set up the Cook School back in 2000 and since then 60,000 people have passed through the doors and left with the cooking skills needed to match their newly acquired enthusiasm in food. You can’t help but walk away feeling excited about Scottish food after you’ve been with Nick. He is infused with ideas of taste, of Scotland and a love of life.
If you haven’t written your Christmas list yet, can I suggest you check out the Cook School website? You can’t go wrong with a cooking course run by a team of well established top chefs, including Nick himself teaching you transferrable skills which last a lifetime.
Everything you need to make good food part of your life.
