This time last year I was watching Monty Donn on Gardeners world and appreciating how well his jacket fitted him as he extolled the virtues of owning a banana plant. I was, it has to be said, quite impressed with the size of his plant and I immediately went to my local banana plant shop and purchased one for myself.

It overwintered poorly in the conservatory, but surprisingly thrived in the Scottish sun when I planted it out.  With some hesitation, I have followed Monty’s banana plant advice and brought ‘Bob’ the banana plant into the potting shed.  I’ll let you know, come spring how he fares.
