I am a contemporary painter working in oil, watercolour and ink. My work explores marine environments and the movement of fish within them — particularly the tension between natural flow and the structures that shape or interrupt it.

Using field sketches and studies made along Scotland’s west coast, I develop paintings that try to hold both the physical presence of a place and the atmosphere it carries. Gold elements and linear forms sometimes enter the work as quiet references to mapping, measurement and human intervention.

Surface is important to me. Layered paint, abrasion and texture echo sediment, weather and time — reflecting the landscapes that inform the work.

I live and work out of Yewtree Studio in Argyll, on the coast by Scotland’s first National Park.

My painting Swimming Souls was selected for exhibition with the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour at The Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture and received the Scottish Artists Benevolent Association Award (SABA).

YEWTREE STUDIO

Yewtree Studio is my working studio in Argyll —It is here that field studies are translated into finished works.

TEACHING AND COLLABORATION

Alongside my studio practice, I host small studio days and teach on selected cruises in partnership with artist Anthea Gage PRSW. These sessions focus on observational drawing, watercolour studies and developing an individual response to landscape.

Teaching remains an extension of the practice — rooted in close looking, material sensitivity and an understanding of place.
